Traditionally, sofa tables are proportional to the size of your sofa, are placed behind or beside a sofa, and can be pricey depending on the size. Do it yourself sofa tables are a more economical and customizable solution. Created using wood and lumber, this rectangular sofa table can be painted and customized to your decor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Measure the height of your sofa using measuring tape and plot out the dimensions of your sofa table accordingly. For example, if your sofa is 36 inches high and 48 inches long, plan to create a sofa table that is 36 inches high and 48 inches long. The width of the table is entirely up to you, but these steps will help you create a sofa table that is 18 inches wide on its top surface.

    2

Purchase wood and glass at your local home improvement store and have it cut to fit the size of the surface of the table, 48 by 18 inches. Your wood base will need to be two inches thick and your glass needs to be 1/4 inch thick.

    3

Purchase six 2-by-2-inch pieces of lumber cut to 33 inches tall. These will function as the legs for the table. They should be cut to approximately three inches shorter than your actual desired table height to account for the table top and the legs pads to be attached once complete.

    4

Place your wooden top face down on the ground and mark the edges and corners where the legs will be attached using a pencil. Legs should be attached to the table at each corner and two legs should be attached in the middle on opposite edges.

    5

Apply a dollop of wood glue in the marked space then press the legs into the glue, two-by-two-inch side down, and secure with the L-bracket and wood screws.

    6

Sand, prime and paint or stain your sofa table's legs and sides the color of your choice and allow it to dry per manufacturer's instructions.

    7

Flip the table onto its legs and repeat the sanding, priming and painting or staining on the top and allow it to dry.

    8

Place the glass atop the sofa table and secure it with a drop of silicon under the glass at each corner.

    9

Cut a felt strip to two by two inches and attach to the bottom of each table leg using a mounting square to protect your flooring.
