Dinner Party Table Setting Ideas

Dinner parties give friends and family a reason to get together to enjoy food, conversation and one another. Whether you plan a formal or informal dinner party, for a special occasion or just because, come up with a party theme you can use as you create your table settings. Does this Spark an idea?

Peacock Theme

    Peacock feathers boast bold colors that can complement a spring or summer dinner party. Use rich turquoise and green colors coupled with deep purples to liven up the party room. For a centerpiece, fill a large clear bowl with holiday ornaments in assorted shapes that match the peacock color scheme. Attach a small artificial peacock feather to each guest's place card to add to the dcor.

Beach Theme

    For a beach theme dinner party, use white, tan and gold colors in your table settings. Add in blue accents to item such as glasses, napkin rings or napkins to evoke thoughts of the sea. Scatter seashells of various sizes in the center of the table. Use seashells to hold each guest's place card. Guests can also take the seashells home as party favors.

    White and silver accessories can help you create a winter wonderland themed table setting for your dinner party. Use clear bowls with white and silver floating candles inside. Use silver charger plates and napkin rings. Create unique paper snowflakes to use as a place cards for each guest. Decorate them with glitter to add an extra sparkle to the dinner table.

Valentine's Day

    Valentine's Day colors typically include red, white and pink. Use these colors to create a romantic table setting for your dinner party guests. Place a small box of chocolates at each guest's table setting to serve as dcor for the table and as a favor guests can take home and enjoy. Attach each guest's place card to a single, long-stemmed rose.

Asian-inspired Theme

    From takeout boxes to decorative fans, create an Asian-inspired table setting for your dinner party. Purchase plastic chopsticks guests can take home and reuse. Place a set of chopsticks at each place setting. Purchase Asian-inspired cloth napkins and fold them accordion style into a standing fan. Place a folded napkin on each place, or use it as a place card holder positioned above the place. You could also use bonsai trees as place card holders. Use illuminated lanterns, mini Zen gardens or a Feng Shui candle set as a centerpiece.
