How to Convert Military to Civilian Phone Numbers

The military phone number system is set in place by the Defense Information Systems Agency. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has designed a numbering system for the military and Department of Defense to use called the Defense Switched Network. A Defense Switched Network (DSN) phone number is the military equivalency to a civilian phone number. DSN phone numbers allow military commands and the Department of Defense (DOD) to communicate via a non-secure phone line. Each military installation and DOD location has its own DSN phone number.

Find military numbers(s) you need to convert to civilian phone numbers and then click on the "DSN to Commercial Conversion Tables" in the Resources section of this article.

Find the area in the world that the command/installation is locating using the DSN Directory on the left side of the "DSN To Commercial Conversion Tables" webpage. For example, if you wanted to convert the military phone number to a civilian phone number Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, you would click on "Pacific" under the DSN Directory.

Find the base/installation according to the first letter of its name. In the case of finding the civilian (commercial) phone number to Andersen Air Force Base, it is under the "A" section. The base's location, state, DSN and Civilian (Commercial) phone number are listed next to it.
