When purchasing one for your dining room, consider the look you are trying to achieve, as well as the size of the room. Shop around. Take pictures of different tables you are interested in and compare them before making your final selection.

Set up the picnic table. After purchasing your table, bring it home and set it up in your dining room. Try placing it in different positions until you find one that you are satisfied with.
