Choosing a dining room table doesn't have to be an overwhelming task. However, there is more to selecting a dining room table than choosing the most popular or trendiest style. Table size is the first consideration that should be made when getting a dining room table. Nothing could be more frustrating than bringing home a new dining room table and discovering that the only place the new dining room table will fit is in the garage. A few quick measurements along with an idea of how many guests you can typically expect are all that is necessary in determining a dining room table size. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Measure the size of the dining room using a tape measure. Record the measurements on a notepad for easy reference.
2Determine the approximate number of place settings required. Record the number of place settings on the notepad.
3Multiply 24 (inches) by the number of place settings required and record the number on the notepad. This will be the length of the table.
4Determine the width of the table according to the size of the room. At least 36 inches is needed for easy placement of food and no more than 42 inches. Tables wider than 42 inches will require guests to raise up to pass food.
5Cut two pieces of freezer paper the determined length of the table. Tape the second piece of freezer paper to the first piece and continue until you have the width of the dining room table. When finished, you will have a cut-out image of the table size.
6Place the cut-out image of the table size in the dining room the same as the real dining room table.
7Measure the distance from the edge of the paper to each wall or furniture. At least 36 inches of free space should be between the table and wall or furniture. If less than 36 inches remains, consider a table with fewer place settings or a smaller table with removable leaves.
