A foyer or entryway is the space that introduces visitors to your apartment. Even if your apartment foyer is large, clever decoration tips help transform the otherwise cold space into one that is warm, cozy and inviting. Dramatic walls, striking wall art, select furniture pieces and placement and good lighting create an impact on people entering the large apartment foyer. Decorate the foyer to reflect your personal style and decorating abilities, so it stands out and creates a lasting impression. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Paint the walls of the large foyer a color that blends with the rest of the walls of the apartment. Select warm, earthy tones to create a dramatic effect and make the large space appear smaller. Alternatively, use wallpaper in an attractive print or pattern to add a cozy touch to the space. If desired, install dado rails along the middle of the wall, painting a lighter shade over the upper half and a bolder color along the bottom half of the wall for added effect.
2Place a console table with a mirror, a narrow niche or an armoire against the wall on a side of the foyer to serve as a landing strip for keys, newspapers and other everyday items. Position a coat hanger or rack near it for coats, jackets, scarves and other items of clothing.
3Place the main seating arrangement on one side or the middle of the large foyer. Set a love seat across the sofa, and place a small table on either side. Place a table in the center of the seating arrangement to provide room for a fresh or silk floral arrangement or decorations, if the space allows. Use bulky or plush pieces of furniture covered in fabric that matches the theme or paint colors; however, ensure their placement does not restrict movement or prevent passage for those reaching the front door.
4Hang attractive artwork on the main wall to create a focal point. Ideas include a large family portrait, a painting or a large print. Alternatively, mount a series of framed panels to create an attractive focal point. Use thick frames in gold or another bold color for a touch of elegance.
5Illuminate the large apartment foyer so it provides safe passage during the night. Install wall sconces that throw light upward on either side of your artwork. Place a floor lamp behind the seating arrangement so it also serves as a reading nook, and set a table lamp on a corner of the console table to illuminate the entrance.
6Add accessories that are both attractive and utilitarian. Spread a mat near the entrance, and a coordinating rug under the seating arrangement to blend the decor elements together. Place photos, collectibles or decorative accents on tables. Set a tall potted plant along a corner for a splash of fresh color, and one on a corner of the sofa or love seat.
