How to Decorate a Drape Table

How to Decorate a Drape Table

Drape tables are temporary tables that can be used for displaying crafts and seasonal decor. A drape table is comprised of three pieces: two slitted panels, which form the legs, and a tabletop. This assembly makes them easily stored and carried, but unsuitable for heavy, everyday use. When decorating your drape table, be sure to keep its strength limitations in mind. Take advantage of its portability and use it to show off your decorative flair. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Test your table's limitations by putting pressure on the edges, center and legs. Consider your table's weaknesses before setting up your display. For instance, drape tables made of particleboard are particularly susceptible to moisture and heat and should not be used to display candles or hot appetizers.

    2

Place a tablecloth on the bare table. Use a cloth that reaches the floor and hides the legs completely; this helps maintain the illusion that the drape table is a sturdier piece of furniture. Layer a short table cloth with a table skirt to ensure the proper length is maintained. Consider using a decorative tree skirt during the holidays.

    3

Lay a cloth napkin in the center of the table. Place a second cloth napkin over the first so that they are at an angle and form an eight-point star, if desired. Layer a doily over a fabric round for a more floral look in the springtime. Use a brown or burlap sack for fall decor.

    4

Spread large glitter, florist stones, cutout letters or other themed ornaments around the center of the table. Remember to use only lightweight decorations. Scatter paper grass for an Easter or spring theme. Use foil leaves to decorate for autumn or Halloween.

    5

Place a decorative vase, floral arrangement or other centerpiece on top of the napkins, moving ornaments out of the way as necessary. Stack small squash and miniature, ornamental pumpkins in the center of the table for fall. Erect a small Christmas tree with lights. Place one of your child's craft projects in the center of the table. Fill a basket with plastic eggs and candy. Fill a bowl with flowers or potpourri any time of the year. Use the table as a pedestal for a wedding guest book. Balance the decoration in the center of the table to avoid tipping over the drape table.
