Breakfast Nook Decorating Ideas

Breakfast Nook Decorating Ideas

Breakfast nooks are small spaces in or next to the kitchen that are designed for casual dining, according to Better Homes and Gardens. In many cases, the space is just large enough to fit a table that will seat four. These small areas lend themselves to cozy decor and should be decorated to match or complement the adjoining kitchen. Does this Spark an idea?

Green Oasis

Create a lush, green oasis that will become the perfect place to start your day. Place flowered seat cushions on each chair and a potted plant in the middle of the table. Frame the window with potted topiaries, and hang curtain panels in the same or a complementary fabric as the chair cushions. Hang prints of flowers on the walls. Choose botanical prints for a vintage breakfast nook, or bold, micro plant pictures for a more modern, tropical feel.

Coffee Bistro

Create an inviting bistro that your friends will love to relax in for a chat and some coffee. Decorate in shades of rich brown and creamy white. Hang cafe curtains on the windows, and pictures of coffee houses on the walls. A large, round clock on the wall will add to the cafe feel. If you have the room, add a small table against the wall, and display some of your favorite coffee mugs on it. You might even be able to fit your coffee maker onto the table.

Modern and Elegant

Hang a modern light fixture, such as an interesting chandelier, over the breakfast nook table to give the space instant visual appeal. Keep the table otherwise bare and let the light fixture be the centerpiece, or place something simple and complementary under the light. Surround the table with distinctive, sleek chairs. Hang one large piece of artwork on the wall. Install simple paper or bamboo shades on the windows rather than fussy curtain panels.

Country Cozy

Create a country cozy feel to your breakfast nook. Install a long, low bench on one side of the table in place of chairs, and cover it with plump cushions in a toile pattern. Install a valance in a similar or complementary pattern. Hang a collection of antique plates on one wall. Place a pitcher full of fresh wildflowers in the center of the table to complete the country look.
