Cute Breakfast Nook Ideas

Cute Breakfast Nook Ideas

The breakfast nook serves an important function in a household--it's where families gather to eat. Some families eat almost exclusively in a nook and only use a dining room for special occasions. With so much use, the breakfast nook should be a space that everyone can enjoy. This space should accommodate the whole family comfortably without stealing space from the kitchen, which still needs room for food preparation, cooking and washing dishes. Does this Spark an idea?

Distinct Floor Covering

One cute way to make a breakfast nook look like its own room is to use distinct floor covering to set the space apart. If the kitchen floor is tile or linoleum, you could use carpeting or an area rug in the breakfast nook to provide visual contrast. If, by chance, your kitchen floor is carpeted, you could add a hard space in the nook with a wood pad or a plastic mat like those used to protect carpets in high-traffic areas.

Round Table

Breakfast nooks can be small, so fitting in seating for the whole family can be a challenge. A small round table with chairs that slide at least partially underneath offers a cute solution for a tight space. You could also choose a high-top table with matching bar stools or backless chairs that fit under the table.

Built-In Table

Just like a Murphy bed makes a den into an instant guest bedroom, a built-in breakfast table is a cute way to use nook space. Create a built-in table using lumber, reclaimed marble or other solid materials. An even cuter space-saving alternative is a tabletop that folds down out of the way when the support beam underneath slides to the side.
