Dinner Table Setting Ideas

Dinner Table Setting Ideas

Setting your dinner table for a dinner party or a romantic dinner for two does not have to put a strain on the bank account. There are plenty of ideas that are fun and easy so you can pull together a table setting that your family and guests can enjoy. A little creativity can go a long way without fancy silverware or plates. Does this Spark an idea?

Candles and Flowers

A single pillar candle for the center of the table is all you need. For a unique look, place floating candles in a bowl of water. Depending on the event, holiday or season, add some food coloring to the water with a contrasting candle color. Avoid candles that are heavily scented. A strong smelling candle competes with the smell of the meal.

When using flowers as a centerpiece be sure to place them in a vase that is low enough so the guests will not have to strain to look at each other over the top. If you are looking to add a romantic touch to your table, place a simple rose into a small vase in the middle of the table. For an even more romantic flair, spread fresh rose petals on the tablecloth.

Napkin Fun and Tablecloths

Cloth napkins are an inexpensive and elegant way to decorate a table setting. There are a variety of ways to fold a napkin into interesting designs or simply roll the napkin and tie a decorative ribbon around it in a bow.

Fabric tablecloths, which can be found at discount stores, can add a sophisticated look. Be sure to iron fabric tablecloths once they come out of the package so there will not be any fold lines. A fabric tablecloth is low maintenance--once everyone is gone simply toss it in the washing machine.

Gifts

When setting the table for special events, give your guests a fun gift on their plate. The gifts do not have to cost much. On Christmas you can place a small ornament on their plate that they can hang on their tree. On Halloween, place a little bag filled with candy or after-dinner mints.

Additional Information

For a New Year's celebration, take some glitter or confetti and scatter it on the table to get your guests in a festive mood.

Keep your guests from elbowing one another during dinner by setting place settings about 24 to 30 inches apart.
